Servant Of All

Servant Of All
Ephesians 5:15, 21

Therefore be careful how you walk, not as unwise men but as wise, making the most of your time, because the days are evil. Ephesians 5:15

...and be subject to one another in the fear of Christ. Ephesians 5:21

Walk With God

  • 2:10 – Walk in the good works we were prepared for.
  • 4:1 – Walk in a many worthy of our calling.
  • 4:17 – Walk no longer like an unbeliever.
  • 5:2 – Walk in love, just as Christ loved you.
  • 5:8 – Walk as children of the light.
  • 5:15 – Walk as wise men, not as unwise.
  • 6:10-20 – Walk in the Spirit!

But Jesus called them to Himself and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men exercise authority over them. It is not this way among you, but whoever wishes to become great among you shall be your servant, and whoever wishes to be first among you shall be your slave; just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give His life a ransom for many." Matthew 20:25-28

Subjection? Submission? Serving?

  • "be subject"
    • to place yourself up under
    • It is always used of two equals.
    • It is never used of an unequal to a superior.
  • Pride leads us to demand rigorously from others what we believe they owe us!
  • Humility allows us to give others what Christ teaches that we owe to them.

But the greatest among you shall be your servant. Whoever exalts himself shall be humbled; and whoever humbles himself shall be exalted. Matthew 23:11-12

For you were called to freedom, brethren; only do not turn your freedom into an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole Law is fulfilled in one word, in the statement, "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." Galatians 5:13-14
